What you need to know
Artistic Development - Stage Two

This online mentoring programme is a follow-on course for artists who wish to spend sustained time developing their practice through critical reflection, experimentation, and dialogue. Structured around a series of live group sessions and independent work, the course supports artists to examine their methods, materials, and influences, and to test new ways of working through guided risk-taking.
Participants articulate their practice through short written statements and visual presentations, sharing proposals for new work and receiving constructive questioning from peers and a mentor.

Emphasis is placed on experimentation, self-awareness, and the development of a coherent practice, with attention to personal narrative and critical context.

By the end of the course, artists will have clarified their intentions, tested their ideas in dialogue, and gained confidence in expressing both the conceptual and material aspects of their work. The mentoring framework encourages reflection and thoughtful risk-taking, helping participants identify meaningful next steps for their practice.
How does it work:

• Part One: Deepening Practice & Critical Reflection (4 sessions)

• Part Two: Development, Articulation & Direction (3 sessions)

• Part Three: Professional Pathways & Future Positioning (3 sessions)

Communication
Our sessions will take place on Zoom in a private, supportive group setting. We ask everyone to be respectful and mindful of one another so that the space feels safe and welcoming for all. At our first meeting, we’ll spend a little time agreeing on some shared guidelines, including online etiquette.
Participants will also be invited to join a WhatsApp group so we can stay connected and communicate between sessions.

Whats our students have said after completing AD Stage One
"The impact of your Artist Development program is still reverberating. It helped me to get perspective on my work, gave me confidence.
It managed to create a sense of community and being-in-this-together amongst us participants. My peers on the programme are an ongoing source of inspiration, as are you! I look forward to the next instalment!"

"I joined Caron's course to develop greater clarity of purpose in my creative practice within a peer group. I gained so much more than that! Caron's light touch and quiet commitment to guiding her mentees within a clear framework swiftly created a safe space for exchange and growth. The group size and pacing of the course supported an accelerated development as we examined our practice and the insights, perspectives and support of others remains a core benefit. We are still in touch inspiring and encouraging one another!"
