Description

Paying close attention to what truly counts and learning to express the essence of your visual ideas or conceptual thoughts can transform your weaving into something rich, vivid, and deeply engaging. This course invites you to peel back the layers, reveal clarity, and move closer to the underlying truth within your work. Making It Simple challenges you to reduce technical complexity, set meaningful boundaries, and plan a clear path forward. By doing so, you can stay focused on the heart of any idea or image you wish to share through weaving, allowing simplicity to become a powerful creative devise. During this four-day workshop, set in the beautiful town of Arundel, you will develop your creativity and the weaving processes that underpin the creation of a single artwork or perhaps even the ethos of your practice to date. We begin with a day of discussion and reflection, sharing previous work and exploring ideas for new directions. Over the following three days, each student will take the insights from these conversations and develop them into a piece that reflects your refined ideas. Additional Course Details: You will be contacted up to four weeks before the course begins and asked to provide images of previous work, along with a short preparatory task to complete before attending. This will help inform our group discussions, individual reflection, and the artwork you develop during the course. The workshop runs for four days and includes a balance of group activities, individual idea development, and dedicated weaving time. The tutor will support your creative and technical progress through both one-to-one conversations and group discussions, alongside demonstrations and guidance on weaving techniques. Materials: A selection of weaving yarns, including warp and weft will be available. If you require specific colours or fibre types, please bring these with you. Equipment: Most weaving equipment, including a weaving frame, will be available to borrow. Please note that if your work is unfinished at the end of the course, you will need to purchase the frame before leaving. If you have particular equipment needs or would like to buy a frame in advance, please contact us. Refreshments: Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day. Lunch is not included.
