About Us
Weftfaced is an artist led atelier in the heart of Sussex keeping the craft of hand woven tapestry and textiles thriving. Run by artist and master weavers Caron Penney and Katharine Swailes and established in 2013 by Penney, the workshop has been making tapestries to commission for artists from British abstract painter, Gillian Ayres RA to the artist and musician Martin Creed.
Our Story
Opening in 2013 both artists have exhibited in numerous locations including London Art Fair, British Art Fair, Collect Art Fair, London Craft Week, Pallant House Gallery, Petersfield Museum and Art Gallery, and many more. Both artists have placed work in numerous private and public collections including Guys & St. Thomas’ Art Collection and the Rumi Foundation.

Katharine Swailes and Caron Penney are artists, tapestry weavers, and educators. Alongside their drawings and paintings, they create wall-based artworks using the ancient technique of handwoven tapestry. Swailes and Penney met at the West Dean Tapestry Studio, where they were professional master weavers for nearly twenty years. Today, they work alongside each other in their studio in the Arun Valley, West Sussex.
