Description

Writing an artist statement is part of being an artist. Whether you are writing for an exhibition open call or for your website in the hope of attracting galleries or curators, it is essential to ensure that your statement connects and shortens the gap between the artist and the audience. This is an online workshop which navigates topics ranging from, who is your audience, to the themes and motivations which underlie the work you create. What happens on this course? You will join a group of no more than twenty students, in group discussion and break out rooms. Caron will present the best way to create an artist statement, the areas to avoid and those to include. By the end of the course you will be able to select the main themes, key words, and identify what is central to the development of a successful statement. How does it work? There is one Zoom session lasting approximately 4 hours. It is essential that all students are present for the course, and the session will be recorded. (No break out room discussions will be included in the recording). Level This workshop is for new - intermediate artists of any medium, including painting, sculpture, tapestry weaving, and any craft medium. Date: 18th October 2025 Time: 1pm - 4pm (UK time zone) Tutor: Caron Penney
